No matter who you are, or where you are
on life's journey, you're welcome here.

Thank you for visiting St. Paul’s UCC at Berks Pride Fest! We hope you enjoyed this exciting event!

The national United Church of Christ, a Protestant mainline church, has been a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community for more than 50 years. Locally, our congregation in Fleetwood, Pa., adopted our Open and Affirming Covenant in 2017.

You are welcome to worship with us, pray with us, and help serve our community through our numerous ministries. Ministries include the Fleetwood Food Pantry, which provides fresh and frozen foods to at least 120 residents each month, and our New Beginnings Mission House, which provides temporary housing, counseling and financial education to a guest family.

We worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. and celebrate communion the first Sunday of the month. Ours is an open table; you don’t need to be confirmed to commune with us.

Highlights of UCC Advocacy

1969

Adopts the Resolution on Homosexuals and the Law, calling for decriminalizing private, consensual same-sex relations; government policy changes to allow military service; and other changes supporting legal and civil equality.

1972

First mainline Protestant denomination to ordain an openly gay minister

1975

Denounces discrimination based in “affectional or sexual preference” at General Synod.

2003

Welcomes and affirms transgender persons. Resolutions of General Synod invite all to “learn about the realities of transgender experience and expression, including the gifts and callings and needs of transgender people.” Also welcomes transgender and intersexual people as clergy and lay leadership.

2005

First denomination to affirm marriage equality for all people, regardless of gender. “The 25th General Synod of the UCC affirms equal marriage rights for couples, regardless of gender, and declares that the government should not interfere with couples, regardless of gender, who choose to marry and share fully and equally in the rights, responsibilities and commitment of legally recognized marriage.”

2011

Supports and advocates for adoption rights by same sex couples. The General Synod urged "all states to evaluate prospective parents solely on the basis of their individual character and ability to parent, not on their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

2017

This congregation (St. Paul’s UCC in Fleetwood) adopts an Open and Affirming Covenant “to welcome and nurture everyone who comes through our doors as beloved children of God without exception.”
