Prayer Shawl Ministry
St. Paul's Hook and Needles Company # 1
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Hear ye! Hear ye! The St. Paul’s Prayer Shawl Ministry has a new name! At our March meeting the group voted to be less formally known as "The St. Paul’s Hook and Needles Company No. 1". Both names will appear on our newly created brochures which will be available in the narthex in the very near future.
Even though our ministry is only two months old, our group has been very productive. On Sunday, February 24, 2008, the first nine shawls were officially blessed during both services, and in only four days’ time all nine shawls had already been given to someone in need of the comfort that only a prayer shawl can provide.
Some of us wondered how we could ever hope to meet such an obvious demand, and so we were overjoyed to discover at our March meeting that an additional 17 shawls were either completed or nearly completed and ready to be blessed and passed on to others in need. We expect that there will be even more shawls when we meet again on April 3rd. In fact, we have already arranged for an official blessing of the most recent shawls at the 9 A.M. service on Sunday, April 13th.
All of us are grateful to those of you who have been so supportive of this new ministry. Your kind words of encouragement, your faithful clipping of coupons for yarn, and your generous donation of funds for yarn and other supplies are greatly appreciated.
This is truly a labor of love! There are no words that can describe the fellowship that we share as we knit and crochet together and as we pass the products of our hands and our hearts around our circle and offer prayers, both silent and spoken, for those who will be the wearers of the shawls. It’s never too late for you to join us. Come – bring your hook, your needles, your yarn and help us to bring God’s love and comfort to someone who truly needs it!
